The vineyards are layed on the plain, or on the gentle hills, in soils of volcanic origin. The country is considered to be one of the “greenest” ones from the world. The Sauvignon Blanc from New Zeeland is considered to be the best in the world. The reputation of world class wine making country is consolidated by the even greater recognision that other sorts with personality have: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir frothy wines produced after traditional method, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, blends of Merlot.
